A dancer in the Bronx

How one woman places her passion at the service of the most vulnerable

Melissa arrived in New York City to follow her dream of being a professional dancer, but she discovered something completely different.

She began to teach dance, and realized that it could be her real mission. She founded “Born Dancing,” a dance program for young people who have mental or physical disabilities or who are socially disadvantaged.

“The experience we offer isn’t just about dance; it opens the eyes of your mind,” she said.

Her attitude is not only applicable to dance; in any area where we see a need, we can give whatever we have to offer as a service.

“With this mentality,” she said, “you can change the world.”
